Institution of Civil Engineers (India)
Civil Engineering profession, although is the oldest profession did not have a Society of its own in India unlike other engineering disciplines. To fill this vacuum and to improve and establish the standards of Civil Engineering & Architectural Engineering profession the ICE (I) was formed. The ICE (I) is registered under Societies Registration Act 1860. The ICE (I) is committed to support and promote professional learning (both for students and for existing practitioners), managing professional ethics and safeguarding the status of Engineers, Architects and representing the interest of the respective profession in dealing with the Government and various other sectors of the Society.
The Institution of Civil Engineers (India) is the only Institution of its kind in India which provides avenues for quality education in Civil Engineering/Architectural Engineering disciplines in particular. The Institution of Civil Engineers (India) conducts the Degree and Diploma level examination in Civil Engineering & Architectural Engineering twice a year for those, who for various reasons, could not fulfill their ambition to become Degree or Diploma Engineers but had to take up employment at lower level. They want to upgrade their educational qualification and improve their employment status.
Diploma Civil & Diploma Architectural
Semester I
- Must have passed Secondary (10th Pass) with Math & Science or its equivalent examination from any recognized Board.
- He has attained the age of 16 years on the date of his application.
Direct Semester III
- Passed First Year Examination of ICE (I).
or - 10 + 2 (Science) Scheme conducted by the recognized board of examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or its equivalent qualification.
Certification Requirement
- First Year Examination will consist of 6 subjects. The candidate can appear in maximum of 4 subjects in one attempt.
- Direct 3 Semester Examination will consist of 9 subjects in respect of Civil Engineering and 10 Subjects in Architectural Engineering. The candidate can appear in maximum of 4 Subjects in one attempt.
- On successful completion of all subjects up to 5th semester examination, the candidate will work on a project related to the field of Civil Engineering/Architectural Engineering. The project duration will be one semester i.e. approximately 6 months.
- The candidate has passed all 5 semesters examination of the institution and has an experience of three years working in an organization engaged in promoting Civil/Architectural Engineering profession.
- The candidate shall have had such Practical Experience including experience in a position of responsibility in Professional Engineering or part thereof, as may be required.
The Practical Training for Diploma will be carried out in AICTE approved Polytechnic/Engineering College and the practical assessment will be conducted by the concerned Polytechnic/Engineering Colleges wherever the candidate has under gone Practical Training.
The Project report for Diploma is to be submitted through the Principal or Head of the Department of Civil Engineering/Architectural Engineering of AICTE approved Polytechnic/Engineering College.
Degree in Civil & Architectural
Direct First Semester
- He / She have attained the age of 18 years on the date of his / her application.
- Passed all component of Diploma Examination of the ICE (I) or
- Should have a Diploma in Civil Engineering / Architectural Engineering
Direct 3 Semester
- Passed First Year Examination of ICE (I). or
- Degree holder in engineering other than Civil Engineering / Architectural Engineering. or
- Passed Section A of AMIE (India) after Diploma in Civil/Architectural Engineering
Certification Requirement
- First Year Examination will consist of 6 subjects. The candidate can appear maximum of 4 subjects in one attempt.
- 3 to 5th semester Examination will consist of 10 subjects out of which 5 subjects will be compulsory and 5 subjects will be specialized subjects. The candidate can select any 5 subjects from the groups I - V related to his own field. The candidate can appear in maximum of 4 subjects in one attempt
- On successful completion of 10 subjects of 3 to 5th semester examination, the candidate will work on a project related to the field of Civil/Architectural Engineering.
- The candidate has passed all 5 semesters examination of the Institution and has an experience of 3 years working in an organization engaged in promoting Civil/Architectural Engineering profession.
- The candidate has acquired practical experience of 3 years in a manner satisfactory to the Institution, in promotion, planning, design, construction, maintenance or management of such works as are comprised within the profession of a Civil / Architectural Engineering or in Civil / Architectural engineering research or teaching of engineering in a course leading to the qualification approved by the institution.
The Practical Training for Degree in Civil or Arch will be carried out in AICTE approved Engineering College and the practical assessment will be conducted by the concerned Engineering Colleges wherever the candidate has under gone Practical Training.
The Project Report for Degree in Civil or Arch is to be submitted through the Principal or Head of the Department of Civil Engineering/Architectural Engineering of AICTE approved Engineering College.

Admission Procedure
By virtue of the authority vested in the Institution of Civil Engineers (India) by the Govt. of India, the Institution conducts Part I and Part II Examinations for Technician Membership in Civil Engineering and Architectural Engineering (Which is equal to Diploma Civil & Diploma Architectural) and Section A and Section B Examinations for Associate Membership in Civil Engineering and Architectural Engineering (Which is equal to B.E. Civil & B.Tech Architectural).
The Institution conducts the Examinations in June and December every year. The Institution may, however, change the frequency and timings if necessary. The Institution maintains reliability, validity and credibility of its Examinations. In order to achieve this objective, several in-built checks and balances are kept in the system.
- June Examination - Upto 30th April
- December Examination - Upto 31st October
- Enrollment Fee & Examination Fee - As prescribed by the Institution and as mentioned in the respective form.
Examination fee once paid is neither refunded nor transferred to a subsequent Examination or to any other account except in case of rejection of an application.
